Activities & Services


To accomplish the established mission and goals, the Institute for the Built Environment focuses on the following activities and services:

  • Facilitate interdisciplinary design workshops and charrettes which allow participants to creatively focus on programming and schematic design for new or remodeled environments.
  • Present and publish research and project results to national and international audiences.
  • Offer international technology transfer with expertise in the areas of low energy, sustainable design, design and construction practice management, historic preservation, and computer aided analysis.
  • Offer interactive symposia and workshops designed to bring together allied disciplines of the build environment to study and exhibit partnering and sustainability concepts in interactive educational forums.
  • Provide sustainable research expertise and advise project teams on green materials and techniques of construction.
  • Provide expert project guidance utilizing the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and other environmental rating systems.
